Bojan: The Real Thing Starts with the Super League

The world-famous cola soft drink brand that carries the same colours as our City Boys had the slogan It’s The Real Thing to market their products a few decades ago.

With due respect to the Charity Cup, Kuala Lumpur City FC coach, Bojan, implied the same in verbatim when describing the Super League opener against Selangor this Friday, at home.

He told The Voice of The City Boys, “The real thing starts with the Klang Valley derby against Selangor”, as he stressed that the Super League is far more important for us than the Charity Cup.

The Croatian drew some positives that he has seen in preparations for this game. He noted “If anything, that loss (to Johor DT) has given us more courage and the guys will be ready against Selangor,”

However, Bojan reckons that it will be a tough encounter against the neighbours who have one of the biggest budgets in the Malaysia Football League. He cautioned, “They could not beat us last season, so they will come at us stronger this season. They have a good coach and players. They have strengthened their team with new foreign players. They have been quiet during the pre-season and when your opponents are quiet, it means that they are working hard”.

Nevertheless, the Croatian who is into his second season in charge of the City Boys was confident of our chances to match the opponents, “Any derby will be a 50-50 affair”.

Bojan is also waiting on news of Kenny’s and Declan’s fitness, both of who picked up knocks in the Johor DT game, before deciding the line-up he has in mind for this game.

“There may be some slight changes for Selangor with the injuries to Kenny and Declan. So we’ll wait to see their outcomes. We’ll have to relook that before we decide to field them or not”.

Situations like this are nothing new for Bojan in his 16 glorious years of coaching. For him this is just part and parcel of the game, hazards of the job, he portrayed, “I’ll always have a first eleven, and I have players to choose for every match. It’s not a problem”.

The Super League Match Day fixture between Kuala Lumpur City and Selangor is on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 9 pm (2100hrs), in Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras.
