O CAPITAO PAULO WANTS US TO PROVE OURSELVES!

The proof is in the pudding as the saying goes. Indeed, agrees with City Boys’ skipper Paulo Josue.

The Voice of The City Boys caught up with the Brazilian playmaker to gather his thoughts before the upcoming Super League opener, this Friday, the Klang Valley derby against Selangor, at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium.

Reflecting on the successes the City Boys achieved in 2021, Paulo Josue was quick to put things into perspective. He said, “We must prove to everyone and especially to ourselves that last season’s success was not purely luck”.

He was in full realisation of the task that lay ahead this season, explaining, “It’s a challenge to become champions but it’s harder to win it every single season or fight for it all the time, but that’s our goal”.

Reassuring the faithful fans of the City Boys, the goalscoring midfielder who averages a goal every 3 games  (or less) since being in the ‘city’, remained upbeat, knowing the values that carried the City Boys to dizzying heights and capturing the Malaysia Cup last December, remained firmly entrenched in the squad. He quipped, “We will continue to work hard and if we remain as a unit, we have a chance to make it a great season again”.

With the match against our neighbours, the long-serving city slicker took note of the differences Selangor has now, “They have made a lot of changes and have signed up new foreigners”.

When asked how he thought the game would go, without hesitating, he answered, “We’ve shifted our focus to Selangor. The team with better mental strength and tactics will prevail and I hope we can adapt quickly and collect full points.”.

“Any surprises in store for the big game?”, we asked, the 32-year-old who will be celebrating his birthday on March 13, said “I’ve practised a lot on free-kicks in training and hopefully, we will see the result”, he laughed.

The Super League Match Day fixture between Kuala Lumpur City and Selangor is on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 9 pm (2100hrs), in Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras.
