Zhafri Yahya – Let’s Forget The Charity Cup Loss, Focus On Selangor

Posted at 08:58h in THE VOICE OF CITY BOYS

Man of the Match in last season’s Malaysia Cup final, Zhafri, asked the City Boys’ faithful not to read too much into the Charity Cup loss against Johor DT in the season opener last week, as we were still in our pre-season phase.

Speaking to The Voice of The City Boys, Zhafri said “We didn’t have the best pre-season due to a shortage of players for one reason or another. For me, that match against Johor DT was just part of our preparations for this season”.

The 27-year-old clarified,  “We brought in new players we’re all working to strike the right combination, the right formation. Perhaps that match came a bit too soon for us considering our circumstances, but we need to forget about it”.

Zhafri who has been with the City Boys since 2016, was clear that his focus lay in the Super League opener against his home state, Selangor.

“Our first match against Selangor, is important. We have to get the points, like or not. I believe we will deliver a convincing performance this time, but Selangor does look a lot better now”.

Zhafri also spoke of his personal goals this season.

“I want to do better this season, keep up that momentum from last year. I want to help our team achieve more. I also wish to stay injury-free. In 2016 & 2019, I was out with an MCL (medial collateral ligament) injury. Thankfully, I’ve been injury-free since. Last season, we were disrupted when a few of our players got injured and could not come back. I hope this won’t affect us too much this year”.

The Super League Match Day 1 fixture between Kuala Lumpur City and Selangor is on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 9 pm (2100hrs), in Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras.
