Kevin Mendoza, the No.1 custodian of Kuala Lumpur City, produced a lionhearted display keeping the City Boys in the match against Kedah Darul Aman in Alor Setar last Wednesday, and was crowned the Hero of The Day by The Voice of the City Boys.
He produced a string of saves to continuously deny the Canaries who threw everything at him before Zhafri’s goal in the 29th minute, separated both sides.
Alas, it wasn’t enough, as the Red and White went down 3-2 in the end, but little did it have anything on to stain Mendoza’s excellent performance.
Through a teleconversation with The Voice of The City Boys, last season’s second-best goalkeeper in the Super League, expressed “I feel very grateful and honoured to have been picked as the Hero of the Day by the fans and the club Terima Kasih banyak!”.
Despite that, he realised that his efforts were in vain, remarking, “I am sad though, it wasn’t enough to get the 3 points”.
Continuing, Mendoza mentioned, “I always try to do my absolute best! And I hope we’ll collect more points in the coming games. Thank you for always supporting us!”.
The player of Danish-Filipino heritage, who was ever-present in goal throughout last season, is surely hoping for the team to regain the same consistency from last season, in building that same wall which saw them concede only 20 goals in 22 matches, but has now leaked 6 goals in the opening 2 matches (against Selangor & Kedah DA) not including a further 3 goals in the Charity Cup loss to Johor DT.
