The City Boys regained their mojo following a rough start to the season, answering the critics with a bang, after an 8-0 win against M3 (3rd division) side Langkawi City in the FA Cup First Round on Sunday.
Reflecting upon the game, Bojan’s glee was all to see. “‘I am very happy”, said the burly Croatian.
In an interview with The Voice of City Boys, he added, “I am very happy with the result. To score 8 goals is not an easy feat, even though we played against a team that plays in the lower league. It was good for the players to gain back their confidence, but also for the whole team.”
The City Boys’ Malaysia Cup-winning mastermind, pointed out the importance of Gallifuoco who returned to the heart of our defence after missing the previous encounter, the Super League loss to Kedah, “GG (Gallifuoco) came back and improved our defence greatly. When you have a player like him at the back, the other players will feel much more comfortable in attacking.”
Bojan was also generous in his praise towards debutants Nik Umar and Azri G., as well as Anwar and Nabil who made their first start this season, saying “These type of games is an opportunity for them to prove to me that they deserve a place in the team. They played well. I am very impressed.”
Continuing, he stated, “This is good for the future when you have backup players of this calibre. When the schedule comes in thick and fast, I know I have players that are raring and ready to go.”
The match against the Island Boys was the last game before the competition takes a break for 3 weeks, allowing space for the national team’s training camp for an assignment in Singapore.
Our city’s finest resume the action with a busy month in April that coincides with the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan, welcoming league champs Johor Darul Ta’zim on the 6th, Melaka United three days later at home, and our third straight homer that month with a date against Sabah on the 16th. We do not go visiting until the 24th with an away trip to Negeri Seremban.
