“I am confident. We’re ready, both mentally and physically”, brave words uttered by a brave man, in relation to Wednesday’s welcome of champions Johor DT for the resumption of the Super League at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium.
Akram, the tireless No 14, was measured in his response when asked of the City Boys’ preparations for the big match, while talking to The Voice of The City Boys on Sunday after the first session of night training in conjunction with the start of to this year’s Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan.
“Alhamdullilah, things have been going on (positively) the past two weeks during the international break. It was like a proper pre-season again, and Romel’s return to training was just the boost that we all needed”, said the 29 year old into his third season with us.
Akram who started the match at his former team Johor DT in the Charity Cup, as well as the league encounters with Selangor and Kedah, rallied his teammates against the attacking might possessed by the southerners, who have scored 20 goals with no loss in their 4 matches so far this season, “We need to focus back on defending as a team. Perhaps..maybe, we have been shutting off while defending. I hope the preparations in training by coach Bojan, and the extra effort we do on the pitch during this invaluable period, will pay off and regain the solidity of our defence just like it was last year” (KLC have let in 9 goals in the 4 matches played this season, scoring 13′).
The City Boys could not have wished for a tougher sequence of opening fixtures in the Super League this season. After a high scoring 3-3 opening draw at home with Selangor at the start of March, a 3-2 loss to Kedah DA followed that. A 8-0 home win to M3 side Langkawi City in the FA Cup brought some much needed cheer, lifting the temporary gloom. We now face Johor DT, the second time in a little less than 6’weeks, having lost the Charity Cup 3-0 in the season opener.
The Super League Match Day 3 fixture between Kuala Lumpur City and Johor DT is on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at 10PM (2200hrs), in Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras.
