It was a welcome sight indeed to see Romel, the top scorer of Piala Malaysia 2021 with 10 goals (15 goals in total), making his first appearance for the City Boys this season, when he came on as a substitute at halftime in the 3-0 lost to Johor DT on Wednesday night.
Romel used to be the focal point of our attack, but he was on the treatment table since pre-season began, and missed the opening matches against Johor DT (in the Charity Cup and the league), Selangor, Kedah DA and Langkawi City.
However, the team despite missing Romel”s presence managed to score five goals in the 3-3 draw with Selangor and the 2-3 reverse at Kedah DA. We also smashed 8 goals against Langkawi City, though we fired blanks in both encounters vs Johor DT.
Sharing his frustrations with The Voice of The City Boys, Romel said, “It is the first time this has happened to me and it has been quite difficult for me to stay idle while my teammates are fighting out there. I am so used to battling together with them and giving my all.”
He looked rather sluggish in the 45 minutes or so he featured in on Wednesday but he was just a tad second too late to connect with Paulo Josue’s low cross which had goal written all over it all. The killer instinct is still there, a little rusty, but it is there.
Had that chance turn to goal, the outcome of the match could have been different altogether. Romel, despite being happy to be playing again in the Red & White was disappointed with the result, but he was certain we would bounce back.
“It’s a great feeling to be back, but (I am) sad with the result. There are still many games to go, and we know we can only get better now”.
“We are preparing the best way we can, we need to win to move up the table and get back the confidence within the dressing room”, he insisted.
