The City Boys No. 14 was hailed as The Voice of The City Boys” ‘Our Hero Of The Match’ for his dominating performance in midfield during the 2-0 win at home over Melaka United last Saturday.
The Kedah born into his third season with us, was immense in his role, like a rash that would not go away, snapping at the heels of the Malaccan’s, stopping and breaking up their play everywhere on the pitch, covering and winning the ball back for us while controlling the pace of the match. His work on the day reminded the older fans of resemblance to legendary City Boys enforcer Mat Zan Mat Aris.
“I am very happy that we have collected the first 3 points, and that is the most important thing. For me to get this label of ‘Our Hero Of The Match’ is just a bonus, a recognition of sorts, but I will always put in 120% each game”, he said in conversation with The Voice Of City Boys.
A product of the Bukit Jalil Sports School who went to cut his teeth with the Harimau Muda B squad, Akram is aware that his defensive duties in the middle of the pitch does not warrant special attention or praise compared to his teammates upfront or at the back, but he was fine with that.
“It’s okay. It’s not a popular position anyway to begin with. But as long I know what I need to give to the team, I’ll be more than happy to slip away from such attention”, he explained.
The 29 year old was asked on what the clean sheet against Melaka U meant to him and those specifically entrusted with defensive duties.
“I hope we can keep to this momentum. It’s a start for us to refocus our efforts once again after conceding 3 goals per game in the earlier matches (vs Selangor, Kedah DA & Johor DT)”.
