85th Klang Valley Derby On The Cards : City Boys Meet Selangor in FA Cup 2nd Round

Kuala Lumpur City will take on Selangor in the FA Cup Second Round clash, the 85th Klang Valley derby, at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium in Kelana Jaya after the draw was made earlier today (Wednesday, April 20, 2022).

The City Boys were the eighth pick out of the pot, and going by the mechanism presented by the Malaysian Football League, we meet the seventh pick Selangor, for the second time this year, in one of the four all Super League battles at this stage of the competition. The odd numbered picks were granted home status.

The City Boys drew 3-3 in an explosive encounter with Selangor on the opening day of the Super League last March in Cheras, and this knock-out match promises ‘fireworks’ once again.

The City Boys secured progress in the competition with an 8-0 thrashing of M3 (third division) outfit Langkawi City last month, with goals coming from seven different players, led by Fakrul’s brace, followed by Partiban, Zhafri, Gallifuoco, Hadin, Paulo Josue, Koubemba.

Michael Feichtenbeiner’s Selangor meanwhile, hammered M3 side Harini, 6-0 in the previous round to advance to the last sixteen.

The second round is due to take place over Friday and Saturday, May 13 & 14, 2022 respectively, a few days after the City Boys welcome Penang at home in the Super League on May 10, 2022.

The other fixtures during the draw were Sabah (SL) vs Kelantan Utd (PL), Terengganu/Negeri Sembilan* (SL) vs Kedah DA (SL), Melaka Utd (SL) vs Petaling Jaya City (SL), Johor DT (SL) vs Sarawak Utd (SL), Perlis Utd (M3) vs Kuching City (PL), Perak (PL) vs Penang (SL), S Pahang (SL) vs FAM-MSN Project Squad (PL).
