Malaysia Football League (MFL) on Tuesday evening announced the schedule for the FA Cup Second Round fixtures, and the City Boys’ away clash at Selangor is among three of the eight knock-out stage matches that has been rearranged to a later date.
The 85th Klang Valley derby was set to take place in nearby Kelana Jaya over May 13 or 14, 2022, but it will no longer be held on either of those dates, and has been rearranged to Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 2100hrs (9pm), which just after KL City’s campaign in the AFC Cup 2022, where we meet PSM Makassar of Indonesia and Singapore’s Tampines Rovers in the group stages.
A host of reasons were stated as MFL’s considerations for the change in the match date, but largely it is to accommodate the extended time provided (additional to FIFA Days) for the National team to to prepare for the
Third Round of the 2023 Asia Cup Qualifying Games from June 8-14, 2022 in Kuala Lumpur; the involvement of Johor DT in the AFC Champions League as well as Kedah DA and KL City’s in the AFC Cup; MFL’s competitions calendar.
