The manner of the City Boys’ 1-2 defeat to Negeri Sembilan in Paroi almost a fortnight ago left many in the Red & White with a bitter after taste in the mouths.
Just when we thought we had turned the corner following back to back victories and cleansheets at home against Melaka Utd and Sabah, we fell back into the ditch.
It was our third loss in six matches, whereas in the entire Super League calendar in 2021, we suffered only five losses. The reverse to the Jangs also continued our not too great record of playing away from home in the league since 2021 (W1 D5 L5), and we have yet to register a single point from the two outings in 2022 (earlier 2-3 loss at Kedah DA). Indeed it has been a topsy turvy year for us, since being crowned Malaysia Cup champs on the final day of the past November.
Mirroring himself on the pitch, Akram kept in simple and straightforward when The Voice of The City Boys pressed for an explanation of our April haul of six points from two wins and two losses.
There was just no beating about the bush and fancy dress-up’s for what our No. 14 battling midfielder Akram had to say of our situation.
“We lose focus too easily. In the upcoming match (vs S Pahang), we have to keep it focussed throughout the 90 minutes.”
It was clear he was referring to the way we conceded at Negeri Sembilan, and how we spurned chance after chance to bury the match in our favour, as well as at least two of the three goals let in vs Johor DT
The Kulim born who has played from start to finish in all of our matches this season (except the 8-0 FA Cup first round win over Langkawi City), wanted us to rebound beginning tomorrow (Saturday) against the 10th placed Elephants.
“The next match is important. We have to improve our standings (sixth) and make sure we stay focused for the entire 90 minutes and more.”
