Zhafri : I Have Faith That We Will Be More Consistent

City Boys’ Zhafri shared his views regarding the inconsistencies of our team in producing positive results during the Super League this season.

After 8 matches, Kuala Lumpur City sit in fifth position on 10 points, with 3 wins against Melaka Utd, Sabah and Penang, and a draw with Selangor, while our 4 defeats have come at the hands of Kedah DA, Johor DA, Negeri Sembilan and S Pahang. However, all of the teams below us, with the exception of Sarawak United, have between 1 or 2 or 3 games in hand over us.

Speaking to The Voice of The City Boys following the nervy 3-2 win at home vs Penang, the newly minted national player said,

“We look like we’re slow starters, but if you look closely, it was the same last year when we conceded many late goals at the start of the season.”

He further explained, “So the same situation is repeating itself this year, but we will improve from game to game, and I have faith we will be more consistent.”

The 27 year old scored the City Boys’ third goal on Tuesday, a world class first time volley which almost mimicked Ralph Machio’s Karate Kid’s movie character signature ‘kick’.

“Truthfully, I’ve never tried this in any match except during our training sessions, but even then it was just with my teammates”, he proudly told.

Continuing he added,

“I didn’t expect that attempt to beat the Penang goalkeeper (former KL-lite Kharul Anuar). That’s the best goal I’ve ever scored in my career”.

“I was moved with the congratulatory message from head coach (Bojan) and the many messages from my friends apart the many greetings of fans on social media”, said Zhafri.

Beaming with pride, Zhafri also mentioned that many told him his goal stands among the greats of the game.

“Quite a number have compared my goal with former West Ham superstar Paolo di Canio’s strike (against Wimbledon in the English Premier League season of1999/2000). This is a huge comparison for me, but I appreciate whatever said by the fans”.

Ending the interview, Zhafri, who is into his seventh year with the City Boys, underlined what is most important for him.

“My priority, however, remains in seeking victory for the team. This goal not have happened had it not been for the hardwork of my teammates”.
