The capital city of Malsysia is an unforgiving place that takes no quarters for slackers. You got to pull up your socks to survive in this harsh environment. It is fast paced, tough and hardy. It requires are special breed of people who are willing to give blood, sweat, tears and all in the pursuit of happiness.
The City Boys showed plenty of that in our first away win of the season, coming from behind to edge Sarawak Utd in Kuching on Tuesday, with skipper Paulo Josue leading from the front once again, cancelling out S. Chanturu’s 15th minute screamer, with his equaliser in the 36th minute, before Partiban’s goal a minute from regulation time, set off celebrations of all those that bleed Red & White.
Kenny, The Voice of The City Boys’ Hero Of The Match, embodied this Terry Butcher-esque spirit, with true grit, sheer determination and relentless persistence. Playing with a bandaged head for large parts of the encounter after a terrible gash following a challenge by former KL-lite Francis Kone, Kenny refused to back down despite his handicap, giving his all to play his part in protecting the backline as the enforcer.
“We played well as a team. We did lots of good moves, passes and chances. We kept the ball well and worked as a team to defend our goal. (I’m) very proud of each player for their commitment and work rate.”, he related after the win.
Underlining the importance of the result, which was the City Boys’ fourth win in the Super League, he said, “It was (a) very crucial 3 points. It helps ur to have a better (a) rest, (a) peaceful mind and quality time to relax. A positive way to go ahead for a nice vacation with (the) family.”
He also shared his thoughts on his own performance, but said there is plenty for the team to do better.
“I felt I had a decent match attacking and defending. All my teammates helped me and backed me up whenever I made a mistake. Overall I’m satisfied with our performance and yet there are still places where we can improve.”
The Ipoh born who is as passionate as they come on the pitch was appreciative of the fact that a group of Sampai Mati Kuala Lumpur faithful made the journey across the South China Sea, in support of the team.
“Honestly, (I) didn’t expect fans to be there, but when I saw them, I was so proud of them. Gave us more responsibility to perform well and entertain them. These 3 points belong to them also. Even though in a small group but their thoughts and sacrifices matter a lot and motivated us as well. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the fans who were there at the stadium and also not forgetting those who watched the match online.”
