BOJAN : “ANOTHER PIECE OF HISTORY BUT IMMEDIATE FOCUS IS ON NEGERI SEMBILAN”

After a joyous night of celebrations and partying on Wednesday in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam, following the AFC Cup 2022 ASEAN Zonal Semi-final 6-5 win on sudden-death penalties over Viettel FC, headcoach Bojan cautioned against getting too carried away in thinking of the final so soon, with the impending visit of high riding Negeri Sembilan in the Super League coming on Thursday.

An absorbing 120 minutes including extra-time at the Thong Nhat Stadium, saw no goals, but the City Boys had a little bit of luck in the shootout, first surviving Irfan’s miss, then Azri G. producing a show stopper save from Bui Duy Thuong’s spotkick, to send them and their traveling fans into jubilation.

“I must say this is a great result for KL(C). Over the past two years, KL(C) have been creating history and now another piece of history has been added”, said Bojan.

“However, right now, our focus is on Negeri Sembilan for the Super League next week (this Thursday). Only after this match, we shall get into motion, readying for the final”, he was quoted as telling Sinar Harian and The Star in the aftermath of the celebrations.

“We still have plenty of time to prepare for the final with (PSM) Makassar)”, he said.

Twice ASEAN level champions in 1987 and 1989, when it was known as the ASEAN Champions’ Cup, back then a part of the AFC Asian Club Championship, the City Boys will once again meet fellow group mates PSM Makassar of Indonesia in the ASEAN Zonal Final on August 24, 2022 at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, for a ticket to the Inter Zone Semi-Final against India’s Mohun Bagan.
