FORGET THE ASEAN FINAL, FOCUS ON NEGERI SEMBILAN SAYS PAULO

The euphoria of qualifying for the AFC Cup 2022 ASEAN Zonal Final remains at fever pitch for the City Boys, but skipper Paulo Josue reminded his troops that there is business to do in the form of the visit of Negeri Sembilan in the Super League tomorrow (Thursday, August 18 2022), and rallied them to tune their focus onto the immediate task at hand.

The southern side have been sizzling hot since coming into the Super League this season on the back of their success in gaining promotion from the Premier League as champions. Currently in third position, they are six points of the leaders Johor DT and three points behind second place Sabah, but significantly, they sit comfortably 9 points ahead of the chasing pack led by Terengganu, and have registered 4 straight wins since losing at home to the Borneans.

“The most challenging thing is to switch off the AFC Cup (ASEAN Zonal) Final and focus on the league game. We all understand they are a good team and living in an excellent momentum, but we are preparing for the match against Negeri Sembilan very well these last (few) days” says the Brazilian.

Despite the opponent’s excellent statistics of 9 wins, 5 draws and 2 losses which includes an unbeaten record away from home with 4 wins and 4 draws, he believes that things are different at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium.

“We will play home, and we know how strong we are in Cheras; as long everyone plays hard and delivers the best for the team, I believe we can have some excellent performance, collect these points, and climb on the table again.”, he adds.

On the squads health in terms of illness or injury, Kuala Lumpur City’s playmaker observed the following, and concurred that Kenny and Ryan are on the mend, though it may take awhile for the former to get back into playing shape.

“In the last few games, we had some players’ injuries, which is terrible, mainly because we don’t have a big squad. One injured player will leave a big dent in the team.

“But this is no time for excuses, so we will play with what we have and win games”, ending the conversation with The Voice of The Boys.

The Super League Match Day 17 fixture between Kuala Lumpur City and Negeri Sembilan is on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 8.15 pm (2015hrs), at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras.
