Kuala Lumpur City’s final addition of our foreign quota this year, Koubemba, was conspicuously missing during the City Boys’ home matches last week, the 3-0 defeat against Johor DT and the 2-0 victory that followed over Melaka Utd. He was last seen in the Red & White, delivering our final goal in that thumping 8-0 win over Langkawi City in the first round of the FA Cup in mid-March.
We sought out the Congolese forward for clarification of his recent absence.
“I felt something in my hamstring before the JDT game. Then accordingly with Bojan (head coach), we decided to not take any risks of getting this injury worse.”
Koubemba who opened his league accounts with that last minute header in Alor Setar to reduce the deficit in our 3-2 loss at Kedah DA, was poignant of his inability to help prevent our second loss this season to Johor DT, again by the same scoreline as the Charity Cup earlier, but explained that it would not have made any sense to compete if there are better options available to the coach.
“Of course, you wanna be involved at every game to help the team, but in this case, I can’t and it’s better to let the place for one of my teammates who will be at 100%”.
His professional football career has taken the French born 1.92m to Belgium, Bulgaria,
The French born 1.92m forward began his footballing journey in his country of birth, also featuring time with the current Ligue 1 champions Lille. He also played in Belgium, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Albania before arriving here in the Far East with the City Boys, suggesting his adaptability to a variety of local conditions.
After showing flashes of brilliance and skill in his last outing, Koubemba is now thankfully fit again and raring to get back into the starting line-up, and looks forward to contribute in any capacity possible, whether linking up with Romel upfront or playing wide or otherwise.
“Of course, I feel more comfortable (with Romel back) because Romel is a good player. Wherever and whenever the coach will need me, I will give my maximum to help this team.”
Koubemba was speaking to The Voice of The City Boys.
