Bojan, the City Boys’ head coach, could not hide his disappointment and anger for the 2-1 loss at Negeri Sembilan on Sunday.
In the post match press conference, he said the Red & White had no one to blame except ourselves after squandering multiple opportunities to win the game and letting in poor goals.
“We lost the game because we missed the chances. (In the) first half we had 5 chances, 3 chances were one on one with the goalkeeper. (There’s) nobody else to blame. When you miss your chances, you will be punished. Then they (Negeri Sembilan) score(d) (a) goal from (a) situation where Goulon didn’t even jump. My player (Koubemba) who marked him, allowed Goulon to push him away and never (not) jump with him. Okay it’s no problem if you don’t jump, but you need to challenge with the player, he (Goulon) did (a) free header, and the third goal, my defence and midfielders were in a coffee shop. Nobody come for the after our goalkeeper (Mendoza) drop(ped) the ball because he was under pressure but after this nobody had this position defence midfielder. No need to be smart.”
The 2021 National Football Awards Coach of The Year, was also asked about Koubemba’s display today, following his return to the starting line-up since the 3-0 defeat to Johor DT.
“He had chances, he had 2 free headers he didn’t score. Of course (over) here everybody expect(s) from foreign players especially (in) attacking that he need(s) to score. Normally, he’s doing everything else (right), he’s making good runs, he’s playing wide, he’s fine. He was playing more wing today, more (as a) striker, because we played with 3-5-2 today but these chances, he needs to finish, for foreigners they must finish. This is (the) difference (of expectation) between foreign strikers and local strikers.
The Croatian led us to our 4th Malaysia Cup title last November, regretted that we lost our focus of what is most important during a game, despite having more possession, more occasions to score.
“Everything was fine except scoring goals and conceding goals. The other thing, we were having more (of the) ball, we create(d) much more chances, this part was okay, this part was good. But (the) crucial part in football (is) you to look nice or play ball around, but you play to score goals, goals win matches.”
Finally, on the penalty appeal incident in the 62nd minute in which the referee waved away our protests despite video replays indicating an obvious handball by Khuzaimee Piee.
“I cannot give you comment, you know why. It will be interesting to see what’s the rules. I saw the video but..I wish that I can give (a) comment.”
