Gallifuoco was one of our standout performers during the City Boys’ unfortunate 1-2 defeat to S Pahang on Saturday at home. A goal in each half by the visitors, condemned the Red & White to our fourth loss in the league this season, and second reverse at home.
The Australian’s workrate all over the pitch was exceptional during the game, stopping dangerous moments the opponents created and even pressing upfield when we went in search of the equaliser.
As a matter of fact, it was the 28 year old’s cross looking for Koubemba that led to skipper Paulo Josue’s consolation goal for the record books, after the Brazilian established himself as the City Boys’ all-time top scorer in the Super League with 22 goals..
Addressing The Voice of The City Boys, after being chosen as our Hero of The Match for his big performance vs the Elephants, the centreback said,
“Thank you everyone for the votes. I truly appreciate it. It’s difficult to talk about the individual performance after a tough loss like that. I am always willing to give my all to be able to help our team until the final whistle.”
Fondly known as GG to his teammates, he pointed out some key positives in defending that the team could learn and improve from, as we try to aim to get back to winning ways, after losing twice in a row for the second time this year (Kedah DA & Johor DT and Negeri Sembilan & S Pahang).
“In the last four games (vs S Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Sabah and Melaka Utd). we have only conceded 1 goal from open play, which is a positive. Now turning our eyes to Penang & getting ourselves ready for that much-needed victory.”
Herald Goulon’s late winner in Paroi was what Gallifuoco meant above as the solitary field goal conceded whereas the other 3 goals that went past us in that period were set-pieces vs the Jangs, Goulon’s header from a corner, and with the Elephant’s it was Nor Azam Azih’s world class freekick and Manual Hidalgo’s unfair penalty decision by the referee.
The Sydney native who joined Kuala Lumpur City in the triumphant season of 2021 acknowledged that recent results have not been going the city way, despite creating plenty to win it easy at other times. However, Gallifuoco was positive the team has what it takes to overcome this temporary setback.
“In football, sometimes luck favours you & sometimes it doesn’t. Unfortunately, we are going through a period where the ball just isn’t bouncing our way.”
He adds,
“But soon, the tide will turn & as with last season, we have the talent & work ethic to show everyone what a great team we are. Which I have no doubt we will be able to achieve.”
