Kyrian Nwabueze, who joined Kuala Lumpur City in mid-season last year but suffered the misfortune of a horrific anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to his knee, during his only appearance in July 2021 while playing against Selangor at hone in the Super League, is finally back in contention for to challenge a place upfront in the City Boys’ attack.
Following a length rehabilitation period back in his hometown of California in United States of America, Kyrian rejoined the Red & White’s in the middle of May this year, to continue his recovery, and even featured in the friendly match win against Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Crown in June, coming on as a 63rd minute substitute for Romel.
Speaking to The Voice of The City Boys in Saigon, Vietnam, the night before the AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal Semi-final against Viettel FC, head coach Bojan officially shed the light on the condition and status of the Nigerian born striker.”Since last month, we had Kryian back in training, and this past two weeks, he has been showing significant improvements. He is doing well in training and is almost ready for matches. Based on the training every day, he showed tremendous improvement. This is one year after his ACL injury.”
On Kyrian’s chances to finally make his official debut for the City Boys this year in tomorrow’s big game, the burly Croatian had this to say,
“For this game, I can have an extra player to choose from because he is registered for AFC Cup, so tomorrow, I will decide who will be in our striking force. We have seven foreigners and can only choose four, but I am happy that Kyrian is back. His presence is essential for our team.”
